Players must make two consecutive shots before earning the right to move to the next spot … miss two in a row and head back to the previous spot.
You want consistency from shooters and this drill rewards players for making a couple in a row while punishes them for missing consecutive shots.
Consider this a 2-2-2 drill in that players are trying to make two straight shots to move to the next spot. Miss two shots and move back to the previous spot. Try to complete the five-spot drill in just two minutes at most.
Mark out the five areas from where you want the shooters to shoot. Use cones to give approximate spots. Depending on your age group, skill of player and types of shots on which to focus, these can be mid-range jumpers or you can set up the five cones all outside the 3-point line. The shooter starts shooting from the first spot [1]. Make two in a row from the first spot and move to the next as the partner rebounds and passes [2]. Keep trying to make two in a row at each of the five spots. If you miss two in a row from any spot, you have to retreat to the previous spot and continue the actions. [3].
Give players two minutes to complete the drill. Keep track of who can complete it in the fastest time. Keep a log throughout the season and have players set a goal to be the fastest by season’s end.
